I read a book recently. Regular readers of my blog know I am an avid reader, I even write book reviews!
This one though, it really got to me.
It is called Forward by Dr David Jeremiah. In his book, Dr Jeremiah makes an excellent analogy of driving a car to direct our lives.
I’ll let you know upfront, Forward, is a faith-based book. What I really liked about it is that he makes some brilliant observations that we can all learn from, regardless of our spiritual beliefs.
In his introduction, he states that there is a big reason that the front windshield of our cars is much bigger than the rear-view mirror.
He makes the analogy of the fact that many people drive their lives with their eyes fixed on what is behind them, instead of better investing in the large view of the vision ahead of them.
The truth is what is behind us is gone! And let’s face it, if someone hits you from behind, you have no real control over that anyway, so we need to stop looking back at the things that we have no control over and can’t change or pass through again.
Focus is an important skill. Focus and persistence can get you through the darkest days until you can find the light again.
Yes, the car window focus is definitely a simple analogy but just try it out now.
Look through your planner for the week ahead. Are you looking forward through the big window with thought-out goals and strategies?
Or are you looking through the same old rearview mirror of conditioned habits and the same results each week?
I would add my own learned wisdom, consider the side mirrors which I believe are to remind us not to veer off the path as you have before. These mirrors are invaluable! Also, you can use them to avoid things that would sneak up on you from the side, challenges that cause you to swerve and be pushed off the course from your life’s mission.
I gave a copy of Forward to each of my grown children for Christmas! I hope this Christmas was a good one for you all, especially those of you in the areas of our planet, still battling heavily with this virus!
As we reach the end of the first month of 2021, we all can renew our vision and realise that if we want to make progress, we must reflect and then move forward.
Reflect and check: Is your community inspiring and releasing you to go onwards and upwards to new heights in your career or holding you down? Are you getting things done with education and motivation and or just treading water?
Remember that being different is your biggest asset and you don’t have to be like everyone else. If you need a career coach, drop me an email or private message today to get you on the right track.
Thanks for reading! I’d love you to share your thoughts in the comment space below!
